Unveiling an Energy-Efficient Future with Huntingdon Area School District

The Huntingdon Area School District is setting a benchmark in energy efficiency and educational innovation through a groundbreaking Energy Savings Performance Contract (ESPC). Partnering with Schneider Electric, a global leader in energy solutions, the district celebrated its progress with a ribbon-cutting ceremony at the Bearcats’ first home football game on August 23.

A Stand-Out Project Scope

Energy-Efficient Upgrades

The $9.9 million initiative encompasses a wide range of upgrades across the high school, middle school, Standing Stone Elementary, Southside Elementary, and War Vets Memorial Stadium. This includes the installation of new LED lighting and advanced energy controls that drastically cut down energy consumption.

Solar Power Implementation

By integrating solar power, the district is set to offset 45% of its electric load. This not only hedges against future electric rate increases but also sets a precedent for sustainability in educational institutions.

Impressive Cost Savings

Anticipated to generate $5.8 million in savings over the next 20 years, this project demonstrates how strategic investments in energy efficiency can result in significant financial returns.

Advanced Lighting Systems

The switch to LED lighting at War Vets Memorial Stadium exemplifies the district's commitment to innovation. The advanced system not only saves on electricity bills but also adds versatility with controls for various lighting scenes and patterns, enhancing the game-day experience.

STEM Labs and Career-Readiness

Beyond infrastructure, the initiative is transforming classrooms into hubs of innovation. Students now have access to hands-on STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) experiences, fostering a culture of curiosity and readiness for future careers in these fields.

The Road to Sustainability and Education Excellence

“This project is more than just an upgrade; it's a fantastic teaching tool,” says Mitchell, highlighting how these changes inspire students to engage with cutting-edge technologies. By aligning with modern educational goals, the district aims to reduce its carbon footprint and inspire other schools to follow suit.

Schneider Electric’s involvement further enriches the educational landscape. Their Remake Learning Days offered students insights into the district's infrastructure, tying them to potential STEM careers. Plus, Schneider's donation of drones provides real-world learning opportunities by documenting the project's progress.

The Huntingdon Area School District's energy efficiency project is a testament to the power of visionary thinking and strategic partnerships. By marrying energy-saving measures with educational enhancements, the district is not only safeguarding its financial future but also equipping its students for success in a rapidly evolving world.
