When the Gulf Shores, AL school system was formed in 2019, district officials undertook a thorough evaluation of its facilities, identifying a critical need for infrastructure improvements. With their sights set on “Making Waves” as one of the most innovative, state-of-the-art districts in the region, they focused on enhancing efficiency, lighting, and HVAC systems. After investing $10 million in infrastructure improvements, the district achieved a guaranteed 33% savings on electricity and utilities.

The district also found several opportunities within the project scope to tie in sustainable technology and student programming. The campus now features interactive exhibits and sustainable technology displays complete with interactive, touchscreen dashboards that show real-time data on solar energy produced, energy usage and more.
