Collaboration will support Schneider Electric's Zero Carbon Project to decarbonize supply chain
November 21 2022, Rueil-Malmaison, France – Schneider Electric and long-time supplier Microplásticos today announced joint efforts to accelerate decarbonization efforts. Microplásticos, a plastics manfucturer operating in Portugal and Poland, has publicly announced they will reduce their absolute Scope 1 and 2 GHG emissions by 88% by 2023, and will procure 100% renewable electricity by 2023 with the goal of being Net-Zero by 2030.
In addition, Schneider Electric launched ‘The Zero Carbon Project’ to partner with its top 1,000 suppliers to halve their operations’ CO2 emissions by 2025. As a supplier to Schneider Electric, Microplásticos has demonstrated strong commitments to decarbonization and is partnering with Schneider Electric to develop their carbon strategy and roadmap.
“In such a complicated world, it is mandatory to understand that the transition to carbon neutrality is no longer an option. Companies that invest in net zero will improve their bottom lines, by reducing costs, retain the best talent and be closer to new business with current and new clients,” said Frederico Pais, CEO of Microplásticos. For Microplásticos, “it was key to work together with Schneider Electric, since they helped us not only in the strategy but also in the implementation gap. It will be part of our culture through actions to increase the stakeholders engagement.”
“Microplásticos is taking a critical step in attaining leadership position on sustainability through their goals to adopt renewable energy and become Net-Zero in Scope 1 and 2 by 2030,” said Pasha Ponomarev, Head of EMEA Sustainability Business for Schneider Electric. “We are honored to work with Microplásticos as an important member of our suppply chain, and we are excited to be close collaboration partners in our journeys to decarbonize our respective operations.”
To support their decarbonization efforts, Microplásticos plans to eliminate Mobile emissions (Scope 1) by 2026 and are working to immediately procure renewable energy in support of its goal to have 100% renewable electricity from 2023. Learn more about Schneider Electric's Zero Carbon Project.
