Jersey City's Commitment to Climate Resilience
Jersey City’s ESIP, initiated in June 2022, sets a new standard in the US for municipal resilience and climate action amidst ongoing climate change challenges. Key elements include:
- the installation of resilient energy infrastructure including solar power, battery storage and backup generation
- transitioning the city’s sanitation fleet to electric vehicles
- the nation’s first self-sustaining municipal microgrid.
Schneider Electric has collaborated closely with Jersey City to execute the comprehensive plan throughout the city, proving their expertise in enhancing municipal resilience and sustainability. The ESIP is projected to reduce energy costs by $13 million over the next 20 years. These efforts will also provide Jersey City's residents and government with uninterrupted access to critical city services, even during extended power outages or fuel shortages.
